Our Stay at the Mtoni Resort near Stone Town, ZanzibarThe place has two major restaurants: The Zanzibar Sports Cafe and the Mtoni Restaurant by the pool there was also a Splash Bar. I did not see it open too often. We hate and had breakfast at both places and the food was generally very good, although it was a bit pricey for Zanzibar standards. The resort also made available free Internet. We were able to chat with or kids who stayed back in Canada, by using Facebook. One of the big attractions of the resort is the lovely pool. Kids and adults alike, loved to play and swim in it. The pool was very well maintained. The beach had a lot of seaweed, very people used it. Half a kilometer north there was a lot of garbage on the beach.
Unfortunately, while we were there, their was a power shortage between Zanzibar and the mainland. There was a breakdown affecting the undersea cable providing electricity from the mainland. They shut down the power at night at the hotel. The rest of the time they used an expansive option, generators. The first night, we were not prepared and the windows were all shut and we could not see and we were unable to open them. We baked and we sweated, we barely slept. |
