We took ou rented car and made our way to the dangerous Atlas Mountains. The steep drive often on the edge of cliffs scared the heck out of our daughters. We finally arrived on flat ground and we stayed at the spectacular village of Ait Benhaddou a movie mecca and a famous Unesco site. After our stay we passed through Ouarzazarte and we went through to the gorge of Dades. The drive there was tiring but spectacular. We looked for a place to stay after a few hours and we settled in the town of Errachida where we stayed at the fun Auberge Tinit. We made a lot of friends we wished we could have stayed longer. We made a friend, Ali, who knew how to get to the desert. He hired some camels with a a Berber guide for us. On our way to the Sahara, we bought some carpets in Rissani. He came with us as far as the Hotel du Sud, near Merzouga. We used their pool, had a great meal, met very friendly Berbers. This was probably one of the most exotic hotels we ever visited. The trip in camel was great. Girls were totally happy and they took a lot of pictures. Some of the sand dunes we could not even see the summit. We stayed in tents, I even slept outside just like a real Berber. We had a long drive back to Marrakech. We used a different road through the middle Atlas. We stopped near Ifrane to see the monkeys and slept at a lousy Auberge nearby. Next day we went to the spectacular Ouzoud waterfalls. We arrived very late in Marrakech. It was a suicidal experience to find an hotel. We almost got killed a few times. Overall was truly a great trip. See the pictures below. |
